ANDERSONVILLE — The longtime home of Cas Hardware is being renovated for a new retail tenant after being bought by the owner of Andersonville Wine & Spirits.
Cas Hardware, 5305 N. Clark St., closed in February after being in business since 1954. After 41 years of owning the shop, Cornel Ladan Jr. said it was time for him to retire and focus on family and his hobbies, like lamp repair.
To coincide with the closing, the Ladan family listed their Clark Street building for sale.
Brothers Elias and Ramzy Bousheh paid $1 million to buy the building in early March, Cook County property records show.
Elias Bousheh owns Andersonville Wine & Spirits, 5201 N. Clark St. Bousheh said he and his brother are renovating the building in preparation for tenants, retail and residential.
Bousheh, on top of owning the liquor store, is a landlord in Andersonville, he said. He saw a “for sale” sign at Cas Hardware and thought the building would make a good investment, he said.
The first floor will be rehabbed and rented as a commercial space, Bousheh said. Renovations include upgrades to the building’s facade.
The second floor will be rented as an apartment, he said.
Work on the building is ongoing, with scaffolding erected along Clark Street. The project is likely to be wrapped up by early next year, Bousheh said.
The two-story building at 5305 N. Clark Street is part of the Andersonville Commercial Historic District.
