Princess Cruises has confirmed in communication to travel agents that two cruise ships have been sold which is in-line with Carnival Corp’s announcement of a total of 18 vessels being disposed of.

Two Princess Cruise Ships Sold

Princess Cruises which is owned by the Carnival Corporation has revealed to travel agents that two of its ships have been sold. Sea Princess and Sun Princess are the two ships leaving the fleet.

In the notice sent out, the cruise line said, “We are writing to share the news that Sea Princess and Sun Princess have been sol and will be leaving our fleet. While it is never easy to say goodbye to any ship in our fleet, the sale of these ships will allow us to deploy newer ships enhancing our offerings for Australia cruisers.”

These will be the first two Princess cruise ships to be let go due to the current global situation and the suspension on cruise operations. As parent company Carnival announced just days ago, a total of 18 ships are being disposed of. Ships are being sold to other lines or for scrap which we’ve seen from other cruise brands already.

The older and less efficient vessels are being sold or scrapped to help cruise lines ride out these bad times. When cruises do resume, ships will likely sail at reduced capacity and there will initially be lower demand. We’ve already posted about sister cruise line Carnival Cruise Line announcing that two more Fantasy-class cruise ships have been sold for scrap.

Princess went on to say to travel agents “Since you have guests currently booked on this future sailing on Sun Princess, we regret that we must cancel the bookings of your clients”.

According to our Cruise Ship Tracker, the Sea Princess is currently located off the coast of Singapore and Sun Princess is anchored off the Singapore east coast along with several other vessels. The ships have remained on hold as Princess Cruises has currently suspended operations in the region through December 12, 2020.
