COVID-19 testing at SFO is sold out - SF Gate

rinwengi.blogspot.com

This week, SFO's on-airport COVID-19 facility is sold out. There are no advance reservation slots, nor is walk-up, day-of-travel testing available for the rest of what will likely be the busiest week for air travel since the pandemic began in March.

A United spokesperson advises travelers who were planning on taking advantage of the on-airport facility to instead consider the drive-through testing site at United's Maintenance Center, about a mile north of the airport alongside Highway 101. Tests cost $105 and results are available within 48 hours, not instantly. When not sold out, day-of-travel testing with results in 15 minutes at SFO's international terminal costs $250. More details on United testing here.

Hawaiian Airlines' off-airport testing center is at 261 Loomis St. in San Francisco, about 10 miles from the airport in an industrial area along Bayshore Boulevard and Highway 101. Customers must make an online appointment, which you can do here. Testing costs $90 per person for results within 36 hours or $150 for express testing with same-day results.

Travelers can also use several at-home testing options such as Alaska Air's partnership with Costco (more on that here), and Vault Health (details), all of which require at least two weeks of advance planning. Fliers can also be tested by their health care providers, as long as the results are accepted at their destination. Currently, these providers offer test results acceptable in Hawaii: AFC Urgent Care Portland, Bartell Drugs, Carbon Health, CityHealth Urgent Care, Clinical Laboratories of Hawaii, Color, CVS Health, Discovery Health MD, Hawaii Pacific Health, Kaiser Permanente, Minit Medical, Quest Diagnostics, Urgent Care Hawaii, Vault Health and Walgreens.

Hawaii and Alaska were the first states to require a negative COVID-19 test for entry with no or limited quarantine, but other states such as New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and the city of Chicago now require it, too, which is likely part of the reason, along with the Thanksgiving holiday, for the sell-out conditions at on-airport locations.

Oakland International is the only airport to offer free COVID-19 testing for Hawaii-bound travelers. Its two testing sites require a reservation made within three days of travel, and it does not recommend relying on same-day tests. (More here.)  A spokesperson said that the airport's testing sites are not sold out this week.
