TAMPA — A 12-year-old Coleman Middle School student is accused of selling stun guns to her fellow students, police say.

The student was arrested Friday on a charge of possession of a weapon on school property. The investigation started earlier that day when a school staffer told administrators that the 12-year-old had a stun gun with her on the campus at 1724 S Manhattan Ave.

The school resource officer took her out of class and spoke to her. The girl told the officer that she had bought five stun guns online, brought them to school and sold them to students, according to Tampa police.

She said she sold three of them on Thursday, police said, and she had two Vipertek stun-guns with her when the officer spoke to her Friday. Police did not say how much she sold them for, but the cost of Vipertek stun devices starts at $9.99 on Amazon.

No threats were made against anyone or against the school in this case, police said.

The student was arrested and taken to the Hillsborough Juvenile Detention Center. The Tampa Bay Times is withholding the name of the girl because of her age.

The school resource officer is contacting the parents of the students who bought the stun guns, or the students themselves, to recover them and use them as evidence.
