Detroit Tigers spring training tickets went on sale to the general public on Thursday at noon.

The team said tickets sold out in about three hours.
About 2,000 fans will be allowed in per game, and some of that allotment had already been given over to season ticket holders, pre-sales and player tickets. Even so, the speed with which the remaining tickets were snapped up shows there’s a hunger to watch in-person baseball, even while wearing masks in socially distanced “pods.”
The last Tigers’ game at which fans were present was March 12, 2020. Later that day, Major League Baseball joined the other professional sports leagues in shutting down due to the emerging coronavirus pandemic.
“There’s a reason Tigers fans are the best in baseball, and today’s remarkable show of support for our ballclub confirms just that,” said Chris Granger, who oversees sports and entertainment at Ilitch Holdings, in a release by the team. “There’s a lot of optimism surrounding the team as we begin a new season, and we’re thrilled that fans have responded in such a strong way. I’d like to commend our staff in Lakeland and Detroit for their hard work so that we can safely welcome fans back into the stands, beginning with Grapefruit League action.”
The Tigers play their first game in Lakeland against the Philadelphia Phillies on Feb. 28. Here’s the full Grapefruit League schedule and details about stadium operations for fans who were able to buy tickets.
The Tigers open the regular season on April 1 at Comerica Park against the Cleveland Indians. Plans for in-season ticket sales have not yet been announced.
