The residential real estate market continues to be on fire, which is a far cry from parts of March and April when real estate came to a standstill and sales were prohibited due to COVID-19 and the state’s shutdown.
All the number across the board for Dauphin, Perry and Cumberland Counties are up year over year including number of unit sold, average price and the average number of days a house was on the market.
The Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors recently released the numbers for September based on statistics from Bright MLS. There were 799 houses sold in its coverage area, which includes Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry counties. That number trounces the 672 houses sold in the same month in 2019 and the 584 houses sold the same month in 2018.
The average house for sale that sold in September in those three counties was on the market for 33 days, 11 days less than during the same period in 2019 and 15 days less than during the same period in 2018. And in both Dauphin and Cumberland counties, for houses that sold in September, the average amount of days on the market was just 29.
Thirty houses were sold in Perry County in both September 2018 and September 2019 compared to a whopping 50 houses that were sold last month.
And more high-end houses continue to sell compared to the same time the last two years and on average at a higher price. More than double the amount of houses, 67, were sold for more than $400K in the same three counties in September 2020 compared to September 2018. The average house in the three counties among the 67 sales in August was $551,487.
The overall average price for houses sold in the three counties for September was $225,564.
