The Husker sellout streak will move to 377 this Saturday, Nebraska athletics director Trev Alberts confirmed on Tuesday, thanking generous donors and the accompanying Red Carpet Experience which offers the remaining tickets to younger fans who might not usually get the chance to see a Big Red game.

Nebraska will also commemorate the 20-year anniversary of 9/11 for the 2:30 p.m. game against Buffalo, including wearing patriotic alternative uniforms.

Getting younger fans who wouldn't otherwise be able to go to Nebraska games is something Adrian Martinez appreciates. Last Friday, he got a chance to talk to some younger fans who had been part of a Road Race event.

"There was a lot of noise made about the sellout streak and the amount of fans that were going to be in the stands," Martinez said this week. "You can focus on that side. Or there's the other side where, 'Man, what an opportunity some of these kids who have never been able to come to a game got.'

"After the game I got to take a picture with the Boys and Girls Club of Lincoln. You can just see the joy on their faces – how much it meant for them to be there. They'd never experienced anything like that. I'm just blessed to be in the position I'm in to have that sort of an impact. It was amazing. I hope they enjoyed it, and I know there were countless other kids who got that first opportunity on Saturday. It's something to cherish. Something that's special."

Martinez believes things like this can help plant a seed in a young person that inspires too.

"Maybe for some of them it gives them a goal – something to shoot for, something to aspire to," the quarterback said. "Hopefully myself and the other teammates were good examples of what young men should look like, and how they should act. Maybe they didn't know that was something that was obtainable for them and they're getting to see that on full display in Lincoln, Nebraska. Pretty cool stuff."

The Huskers announced on a Tuesday last week that the season-opener against Fordham had been sold out, after much discussion about whether the sellout streak would carry on. About 2,000 tickets or so were given out as part of the Red Carpet Experience. There was an announced crowd of 85,938 that showed up to watch Nebraska's 52-7 win.

Nebraska super senior defensive lineman Ben Stille also got to meet some of the kids from the Road Race event last week. Getting that next generation excited about Husker football is obviously an important test ahead for NU Athletics.

Stille understands a big part of that is simply winning more.

"I think it's something you saw recently with some of these in-state kids not wanting to come here – this not being their first choice," Stille said of some recent recruits inside Nebraska who picked other schools. "It's kind of been a trend and I think a part of that is obviously them growing up and not seeing a ton of success here. So that's definitely something important. Myself, personally, it was a dream of mine to come here no matter how the team was performing.

"It's (important) re-instilling that I guess back in kids as they come up in their age."
