In what can be termed a fourth failure, only seven liquor vends out of the remaining 36 were auctioned Friday. This was the fourth auction where the response was poor despite slashing the reserve price by 6 to 10 per cent.
The seven liquor vends auctioned are situated at Sector 8 (internal market), Sector 15, Sector 27-C, Sector 38-D, Industrial Area Phase-1, Mauli Jagran Colony and Kajeri village.
The liquor vend at Kajeri village was sold for Re 1 more than the reserve price. It was sold at Rs 4,68,58,421 against the reserve price of Rs 4,68,58,420.
The liquor vend in Sector 8 (internal market) fetched a bid of Rs 7,73,01,999 against the reserve price of Rs 7,72,91,612, which means a difference of around Rs 10,000.
On Friday, the department earned Rs 36.38 crore against the reserve price of Rs 35.89 crore.
With this latest auction, now out of a total of 95 liquor vends, 66 have been auctioned and 29 are still unsold.
However, the UT excise and taxation department stated that they have been able to earn Rs 334 crore against the reserve price of Rs 311 crore.

Officials stated that they have decided to hold an auction again by slashing the reserve prices further. It has been decided to slash the prices by 3 to 5 per cent.
