Polar Park remains on target to welcome the Worcester Red Sox to its new home in 2021. Fans waiting until next year to purchase season tickets, though, will likely be out of luck.

As April 2021 inches closer, even in a pandemic, the WooSox have experienced surging season ticket sales. July produced more purchases than April, May and June combined. August has seen the number of season tickets sold double compared to July, team officials said.

“The market is still very excited about the Worcester Red Sox and Polar Park and it’s been a lot of fun to be a part of,” Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing Rob Crain said.

The Worcester Red Sox declined to provide specific sales totals, however, but said the DCU Club and first base dugout seats have been the most popular packages.

The DCU Club is comparable to the EMC Club at Fenway Park or the Putnam Club at Gillette Stadium. The package comes with service at the open-air seats but also access to an indoor luxury box-like space. The area includes seating, televisions and concessions

Anthony Cahill, the director of ticket sales and strategy for the organization, said businesses have flocked to the DCU Club season ticket packages to entertain both clients and employees.

Businesses have also shown a strong interest in the 22 luxury boxes inside Polar Park. Sixteen have sold since the team started pushing sales in July. Some were included as part of agreements with the team’s founding sponsors.

Nearly every annual luxury box sold has been to a Worcester-area business.

On two remain available for season ticket packages. Four other boxes will be available for nightly rentals.

“The activity has picked up there,” Cahill said. “It’s picked up and it’s been encouraging that people are looking at those. It’s probably one of the cooler spaces we have.”

Televisions, full service and food that go beyond ballpark cuisine will be provided in each box.

“I think [fans] will experience unparalleled food and beverage that will have local flair,” Crain said. “I think they’ll have service that will beyond their expectations. I think the experience at the game, the views that they’ll have, the amenities they’ll receive will be extraordinary.”

Despite the sales, Polar Park remains seatless. Earlier this month crews celebrated the final piece of steel being added to the stadium. By the end of the month construction vehicles are expected to depart the ballpark making way for operations to begin on the field.

The WooSox have still been able to provide fans with a view of their seats to a stadium that isn’t complete.

As part of the sales pitch to prospective season ticket holders, the Worcester Red Sox are using video software to provide fans with a virtual look at what the view of each section may look like.

“It’s been immensely helpful. People are obviously curious about Polar Park. What’s it going to look like.” Cahill said. “We can’t bring hundreds of people on tours so this is the next best thing.”

Currently, fans can only select a specific section they want to sit in. In addition to the DCU Club and first base box seats, season ticket packages include behind home plate, dugout seats, third base box seats and third base reserved seats.

Only six of approximately 20 different ticket categories at Polar Park are being made available on a season ticket basis.

In September, the team will allow fans to select specific seats to purchase.

Season ticket holders renewing from Pawtucket will have the first selection. From there, the team will work its way down its Booster Club members from Hall of Fame membership to team membership.

Cahill said some of the renewals from Pawtucket are fans living in Rhode Island, while others are in Massachusetts. It’s also a mix of individuals and businesses.

“We wanted to do something special for them,” Cahill said.

The early-bird pricing extends through December. There is a limit on the total number of season tickets the organization will sell to ensure single game individual tickets and group sales are possible.

Cahill anticipates season tickets will sell out as early bird pricing ends.

“We’re almost sold out of our season ticket inventory,” Cahill said. “We kind of put a number on it internally of what we wanted.”

Cahill and Crain credit the recent boost in sales to the organization reconnecting with the community amid the coronavirus pandemic. Through April, May and June, the WooSox’s sales team stopped making calls.

Then a virtual tour of Polar Park in early summer offered through the team’s booster club changed their philosophy.

“We saw a lot of interest in that and we took the hint that maybe it was time to start reengaging with folks,” Cahill said.

Every season ticket holder will also have access to the team’s DUST program - an acronym for Donate, Use, Sell, or Transfer.

Season tickets cover 70 games and fans not able to attend every game have options for the unused tickets. They can donate them or sell them through the organization. The WooSox will try to sell the unused season tickets. If they’re purchased the ticket holder gets reimbursed.

A digital transfer option also allows season ticket holders to email or send admission to their friends and family. It’s also been a useful option for fans splitting season tickets.

“The goal is for there to not be any tickets that go unused,” Cahill said.
