John Mulaney’s recent personal drama isn’t affecting his popularity. The comedian has sold out another run of shows at City Winery.
Mulaney, who checked out of rehab in February, started his residency at City Winery on May 10 and has continued to add more dates. On Thursday, an email went out from the venue announcing another round from June 3rd to the 14th, which quickly sold out.
One source said they attempted to purchase tickets online for three hours — only to come up empty-handed.
Page Six revealed earlier this month that the former “Saturday Night Live” writer was divorcing his wife of six years, Anna Marie Tendler. A source told Page Six at the time that Mulaney had asked for a divorce three months ago.
Tendler told Page Six via her rep, “I am heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage.”
Just days after the announcement, news broke that Mulaney was already off the market, with a source telling Page Six he was dating actress Olivia Munn. While a source told People they had met in church, Munn said in an interview previously that she had met the comic at a wedding and was “obsessed.”
Mulaney — who checked himself into rehab for 60 days late last year after struggling with alcohol and drug abuse — has been open about his personal issues during his stand-up show, called “Starting From Scratch.”
“So John Mulaney at City Winery was … intense,” Rolling Stone critic David Fear previously tweeted. “90 mins that was mostly processing his intervention and rehab experience.” Fear also shared a joke from the set in which Mulaney said, “When I’m alone, I realize I’m with the person who tried to kill me.”
Fear called the set “Hilarious, harrowing, brave, historic.”
