It’s not only Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant memorabilia that are selling like hotcakes in the basketball scene. In fact, a Magic Johnson Los Angeles Lakers jersey recently got sold for $1.5 million at Heritage Auctions.
The jersey, which was also signed by Johnson himself, was the uniform the Lakers legend wore during the title-clinching Game 6 of the 1980 NBA Finals. A rookie back then, Magic powered the Purple and Gold to their seventh NBA title at the time and first since the 1971-72 season.
Johnson scored 42 points and recorded 15 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and one block in the game, which saw the Lakers win 123-107 over the Philadelphia 76ers.

The jersey has been verified through multiple photo matches. But, as if the 19880 NBA Finals was not enough to cement the importance of the jersey, further assessment apparently revealed that Magic Johnson used the Lakers gear as well during other games of the 1980 and 1984 NBA Finals.
Per Heritage Auctions:
Further photo matches from Resolution include probables for Games Three and Four of the 1980 Finals and conclusive matches to Games One and Five of the 1984 Finals, Johnson’s first high-stakes professional showdown with his close friend and rival Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics. There are also matches to undated images versus the Celtics and the Bullets and two Sports Illustrated covers: May 26, 1980 and June 4, 1984.
That’s certainly a piece of history right there, and while the $1.5 million price tag might be staggering for some, it’s not really surprising in the sports memorabilia scene. Besides, some Kobe Bryant cards even got sold for over $100,000, while a Michael Jordan UNC jersey got $1.3 million at Heritage Auction as well.
