Preview Puppets of New York!
At the Museum of the City of New York (1220 Fifth Ave at 104th Street)
From Punch and Judy to Oscar the Grouch; from Lamb Chop to The Lion King; from Lunar New Year to the Thanksgiving Day parade, marionettes, shadow figures, and rod and hand puppets have regaled our city’s stages, studios, and streets.
- Free Admission: Be one of the first people to view the Museum’s new exhibition, Puppets of New York.
- Puppet Red Carpet hosted by Mallory Lewis & Lamb Chop and featuring The Triple Zhongkui Pageant by Chinese Theatre Works at 6 pm
- If you are a puppeteer or a puppet lover, we encourage all guests to bring a puppet and walk our red carpet in celebration of all the puppets of New York City!
- Live puppet performance by the Los Grises/The Gray Ones by Teatro SEA at 7 pm
Don’t want the fun to end at 8 pm? Purchase tickets to Moonlight & Movies: The Muppets Take Manhattan. From 8 pm to 9:30 pm, catch a special outdoor screening of The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) while sitting under the stars. Click here to learn more.
About The Puppets Of New York Exhibition
Puppets of New York explores the extraordinary, surprising, and diverse history of New York City’s quirkiest residents. Puppets traveled with migrant communities from across the globe as they made their way to the city. Like other New Yorkers, they both enriched the metropolis and were transformed by it, as they encountered the heady mix of other puppetry traditions, practices, and languages that also made New York City home.
From Punch and Judy to Oscar the Grouch; from Lamb Chop to The Lion King; from Lunar New Year to the Thanksgiving Day parade, marionettes, shadow figures, and rod and hand puppets have regaled our city’s stages, studios, and streets. They have been broadcast all around the world, and over time have reshaped the puppetry traditions of many cultures. Puppets of New York celebrates them all.
