The site where IBM's massive Endicott manufacturing complex was located has been acquired by a Wisconsin-based real estate firm.
Phoenix Investors of Milwaukee has announced it has purchased the 130-acre Huron Campus property that includes parcels in the village and in the town of Union.
It includes 29 buildings, including some large structures east of McKinley Avenue that are in serious disrepair and no longer occupied. Endicott and Huron officials have been trying to obtain state funding to pay for the demolition of those buildings.
IBM sold the site to Huron Real Estate Associates in late 2002 as the company reduced its manufacturing operations. The location is widely regarded as the "Birthplace of IBM" because of the company's rapid expansion at the site in the early 20th century.
IBM continues to maintain a small presence at the Huron site. Several companies, including BAE Systems, operate in various buildings on the campus.
Imperium3 is developing a lithium-ion battery factory on the site and Ubiquity Solar of Canada has announced plans to set up a manufacturing operation on the property.
The terms of the Huron Campus transaction were not disclosed.
