BELCHERTOWN, MA (WGGB/WSHM) - One lucky winner hit the jackpot with a Mega Millions ticket sold at a Belchertown Stop and Shop.

Mass. Lottery officials said that one Mega Millions Quic Pic ticket sold at the store on George Hannum Street won $31 million in Tuesday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers were 33-41-47-50-62 with a MegaBall of 20.

“The chances are very slim that you win, but if you win, spend your money wisely,” said Cynthia Foster of Belchertown.

Western Mass News stopped by the store to find out what people think about the big win in their town.

“I’m happy for whoever won, good for them. I hope they do good things with it and...pass it forward,” said Garry Bock of Belchertown.

Stop and Shop spokesperson Maura O’Brien said in a statement:

“Stop and Shop is incredibly excited to have sold the $31 million Mega Millions jackpot ticket in our Belchertown store on George Hannum Street. We’re happy for the winner, and hope that all of our Mass. Lottery customers have as much good fortune as this lucky winner.”

The cash option on the prize is $16.3 million.

“Don’s go crazy, take your time, think about what you want to buy. Don’t go nuts because it can run out. It has run out for other people so, but congratulations,” said Catherine Talbot of Belchertown.

Talbot told Western Mass News that she is happy for the winner, but as for taking a chance on the lottery herself, she added, “I never buy them, but it’s tempting.”

Mass. Lottery added that it’s the fourth Mega Millions jackpot won since 2002, which is when the game was expanded and changed from The Big Game to Mega Milions. The largest Mega Millions prize ever won in Massachustts was in July 2004 when a $294 jackpot was won on a ticket sold at a Lowell liquor store.

Winners have one year from the date of the drawing to claim the prize, which has to be done at the Mass. Lottery headquarters in Dorchester.

Stop and Shop will receive a $50,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
