An unfinished royal megamansion in Las Vegas has sold for $25 million, tying the record for most expensive home sold in the area.
Sitting on nearly 16 acres and with a whooping 110,320 square feet of living space across 10 buildings, the property closed on Thursday for its full asking price, after spending just nine days on the market, property records show. Its high-ticket price matches the current record holder for the most expensive home in the region: an uber-contemporary, 15,000-square–foot residence in Henderson that sold for $25 million in 2021. It was relisted last month for $34 million.
The latest $25 million mansion was sold by Spanish Gate Holdings Inc., which is linked to Jefri Bolkiah, the prince of Brunei, a tiny, oil-rich nation on the island of Borneo, according to reports. Bolkiah, 69, served as the finance minister from 1986 to 1997 and was later charged with embezzling government funds to the tune of nearly $15 billion, resulting in decades of legal issues, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The prince was eventually ordered to forfeit his assets, which included 1,700 luxury cars, numerous mansions around the world and at least $900 million worth of jewels from British jeweler Asprey. Mansion Global was unable to reach the prince.
Mansion Global was unable to identify the buyer, and records of the sale were not yet public. Michele Sullivan of Douglas Elliman of Nevada represented the buyer. She declined to comment for this article.
In 2007, the late music superstar Michael Jackson moved to the compound, the Las Vegas Review-Journal also reported.
Construction of the yet-to-be finished compound began in 1996, and the home is 90% completed, Ivan Sher, the principal broker and owner of IS Luxury, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal when the property hit the market in October for the first time.
“The home is completely enclosed and finished, but what’s not included is appliances and some detailed finish work isn’t complete, but for the most part it’s a completed home,” Sher told the Review-Journal.
He did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Mansion Global.
The sprawling estate, located in the Spanish Trail neighborhood, features a whopping 25 bedrooms and 46 bathrooms, according to the listing. The main house offers five bedrooms and eight bathrooms, plus a great room, a dining hall, a music room and a 47,367-square-foot athletic club with badminton and squash courts, a spa, an indoor pool, a bowling alley, a nightclub, a guest suite and 10 bathrooms.
There are also two guest homes, villas, a study pavilion and a carriage house, plus 16 interior parking spaces and 30 outdoor parking spaces. The landscaped grounds offer a tennis court, garden terraces and three pools.
