Goldenseal Root Powder sold on Amazon is being recalled because it was found to be contaminated and caused the death of an infant.

According to an announcement with the US. Food and Drug Administration, Maison Terre of North Little Rock, Ark., is voluntarily recalling all of the power that it purchased from Starwest Botanicals, Sacramento, Calif., then repackaged for sale to consumers.

The FDA said its testing revealed the powder is “contaminated with various microorganisms including: enterobacter cloacae, cronobacter sakazakii, cronobacter dublinensis, among others.”

“The use of contaminated product in otherwise healthy patients can result in infections necessitating antimicrobial and potentially surgical treatment.

In individuals with weak immune systems and infants, the use of the product can result in death.

Maison Terre has received a report of one infant death associated with use of this product on the umbilical cord stump.”

The FDA said the herb was distributed nationwide through Amazon.com from Jan. 25, 2015, to Aug. 4, 2020.

The product details are:

  • Goldenseal Root Powder, yellow colored powder in a clear plastic bag, 1 ounce.

For more information, contact Maison Terre at 501-888-9438, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. CST, weekdays or send an email to info@maisonterre.net.
