Worcester hit the jackpot in 2020 — literally.
In 2020, a handful of towns or cities in Massachusetts sold at least a dozen winning lottery tickets worth $100,000 or more. Worcester, however, sold the most.
There were 14 winning tickets sold in Worcester in 2020 that had prizes of at least $100,000. Half of them were worth at least $1 million. The other half were for Mass Cash, winning $100,000.
Both May and July seemed to be lucky months for ticket buyers in Worcester.
Three of these winning tickets were sold in Worcester in May, and another three were sold in July.
The biggest prize in the state was also sold in Worcester last year. It was for the game 200X.
On May 11, 2020 a ticket buyer at Lucky Mart in Worcester won that prize, totaling $15 million. The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 7,560,000. You’re most likely to win about $30 in the game.
Last year, there were 488 tickets that won prizes of $100,000 or more. Nearly 200 of those tickets had prizes of $1 million or more.
Besides Worcester, Dorchester, Methuen and Reading all had a lucky year. All three areas sold 13 winning lottery tickets for prizes of at least $100,000.
