A copy of Super Mario 64 (N64) sold for over $1.5 million at auction - Poc Network

Stories like this kind of make you wish you never opened your video games as a child (kind of). I’m on the fence on the one as I couldn’t imagine myself as a kid staring at a new video thinking that it would be better to leave it in its package and never play it. However, someone, somewhere in the world, did just that it seems.

A near-perfect copy of Super Mario 64 that has never been opened has sold at auction for over $1.5 million ($1.56 million to be exact). It seems these video games are selling like hotcakes at the moment. Titles like the original Legend of Zelda game from NES recently sold for $870,000, shattering records. Then this comes along and leaves it in its dust.

The copy was graded and sealed with a 9.8 A++ rating. It is one of two copies of such quality (that are known of) and was part of the original production release of the game. You can watch the auction go down here:

All I can say is that I hope that if this was the original owner of the game, that they at least had a second copy to play with (part of any release/run) all that time ago when the game was originally released. It just feel like such a shame to not witness the game back then. Don’t get me wrong though. At $1.56 million dollars, I wouldn’t be too worried about myself. Just saying.

Adblock test (Why?)
