John Krasinski is setting the record straight.
A week after announcing the sale of his feel-good web series "Some Good News" to ViacomCBS, Krasinski explained the reasoning behind his controversial decision.
"I was only planning on doing eight (episodes) during quarantine. I have these other things that I'm going to be having to do very soon, like 'Jack Ryan,'" Krasinski said Tuesday during an Instagram Live chat with his "Office" co-star Rainn Wilson. "More than that, writing, directing and producing – all those things – with a couple of my friends was so much."
Krasinski created the YouTube web series during the coronavirus pandemic to focus entirely on positive and inspiring stories, a welcome change for many looking for an escape from the COVID-19 news cycle and quarantine. In just two months, "Some Good News" has garnered over 72 million views and 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube.
The actor produced eight free episodes on YouTube, including an "Office" reunion, a "Hamilton" performance, online graduations and a virtual prom with special guests.
'Some Good News': John Krasinski sells web series to CBS; some fans aren't happy
Krasinski said his time on "Some Good News" was "the most emotionally fulfilled I've ever felt in my entire life," adding that he would "love to keep doing the show from my office forever."
However, the in-demand actor said continuing the web-series "wouldn’t be sustainable with my prior commitments." Krasinski was left with a daunting ultimatum.
"I knew the two options were going to be that I leave it off at eight (episodes) in my office… or a partner coming on," he said.
"Some Good News" sparked a massive bidding war before landing at ViacomCBS.
"We have a lot of really fun stuff planned and I can't wait to dig in," Krasinski said. Although he' s stepping back from the web series, he said, "I'm going to be a part of it whenever I can, and I'm going to host a couple episodes and bring on a different community of people. We're really, really excited about it."

That news didn't sit well with some fans.
Twitter user @lindseyweber wrote, "Remember when he created this free feel good YouTube show to “make people feel good” and now he is................selling it for $$$? really cool, 100% honorable."
"So he made 8 YouTube videos comprised largely of unpaid contributions from fans, sold the brand to a major conglomerate, and isn't even going to make it anymore? Just cashed out? Does this rub anyone else the wrong way, kinda?" tweeted @Lons.
But, Krasinski said he holds "Some Good News" close to his heart.
"I've received the most amazingly kind notes about how much that show mean to everyone, but the truth is, it meant no more to anyone than me," he said Tuesday.
