The sold-out Taste of Calico outdoor food, beer and wine event at Knott’s Berry Farm will be extended by popular demand while rides and shows at the Buena Park theme park remain closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Knott’s Taste of Calico event that allows visitors into the Ghost Town area of the park for the limited-time ticketed event will continue on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Aug. 9. The initial run of six dates from July 17-26 have all sold out. The extended run adds Taste of Calico dates on July 31-Aug. 2 and Aug. 7-9.

Knott’s fans who miss the theme park will love wandering through Calico Ghost Town again, strolling through the shops and getting a taste of the Boysenberry Festival that was postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Taste of Calico — which allowed the park to reopen during the pandemic without rides or other attractions — essentially recreates the canceled Knott’s Boysenberry Festival as a private ticketed event. The 23 food and drink menu items include a lineup of boysenberry chili, sausages, wings, samosas, churros, bread pudding, lemonade, beer and wine.

Food for the outdoor event is served in and around the Calico Ghost Town area of the park at Sutter’s Grill, Fireman’s BBQ, Wilderness Broiler, Ghost Town Grub and other locations.

Select Ghost Town stores and booths featuring local crafters are open for shopping during the events.

Knott’s follows the now-familiar “new normal” of COVID-19 health and safety protocols with temperature screenings, social distancing and enhanced sanitization during the Taste of Calico events. All employees and visitors are required to wear face coverings. Visitors can remove their masks while eating.

Store occupancy is limited to less than 50% of normal building capacity. Socially distanced queues with 6-foot markers have been set up outside shops. Seating for dining is spread out to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Daily admission is limited to ensure reduced capacity.

Visitors must purchase a date-specific tasting card in advance on the Knott’s website or app that also serves as a Taste of Calico admission ticket. Taste of Calico tasting cards run $25 for five food tastings and $15 for three tastings.

The Taste of Calico requires advanced reservations so Knott’s can keep crowd sizes in the Ghost Town area of the park at 10% to 15% of maximum capacity during the event. The rest of Knott’s remains closed during the event and no rides or shows are in operation.
