A prominent property in Franklin County has been sold at auction for $6 million.
The home of the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children from 1895 until 2009 was auctioned off. The auction began on Tuesday and ended at noon Thursday. The $6 million bid was the first and only bid, which came in at 10:58 a.m. Thursday. It’s unknown who the buyer is at this time.
The Scotland Campus at 3583 Scotland Road in Greene Township near Chambersburg was most recently home to a private school. The school completed its final year this past spring.
The auction listing noted the campus includes the following:
- The 169-acre campus has more than 75 buildings and includes classrooms, cafeteria, chapel, dormitories, staff housing and other residences.
- Athletic facilities and sports courts
- 41 cottages that contain large apartments for staff or group student housing. Apartments include furnishings for living and sleeping areas, kitchens and appliances. There are thick, bomb shelter-like basements in each cottage.
- President’s house near the front entrance and vintage farmhouse and barn w/silos at the rear entrance.
- Full commercial kitchen for the dining hall, which has seating for up to 300.
- Two gymnasiums, bowling lanes, natatorium, indoor archery, indoor baseball training, fitness centers and locker rooms, auditorium and performance stage. Exterior sports fields with bleacher seating and an amphitheater.
- Classroom and conference room buildings, administrative offices, library and an underground tunnel system that connects all of these academic and sports buildings.
- The property has more than 50 acres of undeveloped land.
The property owner was represented by Williams & Williams.
