MANSFIELD — Park Lanes, 1410 Park Avenue West, was sold at auction Thursday to 1404 PAW LLC. for $125,000 plus a 10% buyer's fee.
Ron Speck of Ontario, who had owned the building since 2011, said company officials told him at the RES auction at 5:30 p.m. that they plan to demolish the bowling alley building, which sits on 5.5 acres along the Miracle Mile.
An RES Auction representative Friday said there were several bidders. Officials from Adena Corp. said 1404 PAW LLC. actually purchased the property and an administrative official said they had no further comment and no plans for the site right now.
Speck bought the Park Avenue West facility in November 2011 for less than $200,000 and reopened all 50 lanes. He wanted the facility to retain the name it had since it opened in 1959.
Before Speck bought it, Park Lanes had been an institution in the city since the late Brad Lewis built it into a state-of-the-art facility in the 1950s.
The Lewis family sold it to owners who lived out of state, but financial trouble hindered the center and it soon fell into disrepair and closed.
In 2017, the bowling alley had no leagues. Spark had said leagues wanted to come but they wanted synthetic lanes and not the Park Lanes wooden alleys.
Speck renovated the building, adding a new roof and roughly 10 new furnaces since purchasing it in 2011.

Speck closed the 48,000-square-foot bowling alley facility in 2018.
"It's incredibly sad. Mansfield just lost a landmark and a place for kids to have fun," he said. "I invested $600,000 in it."
Speck said the building had been cleaned out earlier. Gone are the bowling pins, bowling balls, bowling lanes, offices, arcade and more.
"It's a sad day, but it is what it is," he said.
