Under Armour calls it the perfect face mask for athletes. Athletes are putting them to the test.
The “Sportsmask”, the popular athletic company’s take on a non-medical face mask in response to the coronavirus pandemic, was released last week and sold out online in less than an hour, according to the company’s CEO, Patrik Fisk.
Under Armour explains that, “when health officials said healthy people should wear facemasks, we started building prototypes until we made the perfect one for athletes. It’s got the airflow you need, a cool feel, and the best fit for running or training.”
The product’s description goes on to say it’s "made with high-performance UA materials, designed to be worn all day & when playing sports.”
The mask, however, is a “non-medical & non-surgical mask, does not protect against viruses.”
Highlights of the Sportsmask, which comes in just one color (black) but a variety of sizes, include a “performance fit,” “better airflow” and a “cool feel." It is a three-layer mask consisting of a spacer fabric, an open-cell foam and a “UA iso-chill," which the company promises that the "fabric actually feels cool against your skin, stretches, and has an anti-microbial treatment.”
Under Armour’s Sportsmask product page offers a sizing guide so athletes can find the perfect fit. The UA Sportsmask is “available for pre-order now and will ship on or before August 17.”
