TOWN OF ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa in Kerhonkson has been sold for $12 million, according to Ulster County Clerk records.
On Monday, July 31, the property was sold by Hudson Valley NY Holdings LLC of Walden to Valley Ridge Retreats LLC, of Kerhonkson, for $7.5 million, records show. That same day, Valley Ridge Retreats sold the property to Hudson Valley Resort Holding LLC, this time for $12 million.
The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa, located at 400 Granite Road, was once known as the Granit Hotel and Country Club and had been a Borscht Belt landmark for decades.
Ellenville Mayor Jeffrey Kaplan, who is a lawyer and represents Valley Ridge Retreats, and Christopher Buckley, the lawyer representing Hudson Valley Resort Holding LLC, did not return calls or emails.
Town of Rochester Supervisor Mike Baden also did not return calls on Friday and emails and phone calls on Monday asking about the sales.
The Hudson Valley Resort and Spa shut down in October 2018. In 2019, the then-new owners, Hudson Valley NY Holding Co. LLC, outlined their vision of returning the once-popular resort to its glory days.
However, on March 14, 2023, Kings County Supreme Court Judge Leon Ruchelsman granted a motion to dissolve Hudson Valley NY Holding Co. LLC, amid accusations of “misappropriation, breaches of fiduciary duty an (sic) other improprieties” lodged by principals of the company against one another.
Built in the 1950s, the property was one of the grand Borscht Belt resorts of the Catskills, along with the Nevele in Wawarsing, and Grossinger’s, Kutsher’s and the Concord, all in Sullivan County. Those resorts, all closed now, catered largely to a Jewish clientele from the New York City area who had been barred from patronizing other non-Jewish-owned Catskill resort properties.
